The Mack Sennett Collection Volume One

This award winning Blu-ray collection features 50 restored silent and sound comedies produced by the legendary King of Comedy - Mack Sennett!

The  Keystone Film Company, under the guidance of pioneering producer and  director Mack Sennett, was the birthplace of classic American slapstick  comedy. This historic studio was at one time home to nearly every major  silent screen comedian: Mabel Normand, Roscoe “Fatty” Arbuckle, Harold  Lloyd, Gloria Swanson, Wallace Beery, Harry Langdon, Marie Dressler, Ben  Turpin, The Keystone Cops, Ford Sterling, Charley Chase, Al St. John,  Mack Swain, Edgar Kennedy, Billy Bevan, Louise Fazenda, Eddie Quillan,  and countless others. Even Hollywood icon Charlie Chaplin introduced his  beloved Tramp character under the auspices of Keystone. Later, under  the Mack Sennett Comedies banner, Sennett went on to produce a new  generation of sound comedies, some in early color, featuring the likes  of W.C. Fields, Bing Crosby, Lloyd Hamilton, Andy Clyde, and more.

While  the Sennett and Keystone names are permanently etched in Hollywood  history, time has not been as kind to the original films which had made generations laugh for over a century. Of the approximately 1000 titles  produced by Sennett throughout his career only several hundred are known  to survive – some only in fragmentary form.

Now,  for the first time, 50 of the best surviving Sennett comedies have been  gathered from around the world and fully restored and digitally  remastered in HD by CineMuseum, LLC! These new editions have been  painstakingly reconstructed using original 35mm nitrate, archival  negatives, preservation materials, and sometimes the lone known  surviving film print, from the collections of the Library of Congress,  the Museum of Modern Art, The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and  Sciences, Blackhawk Films, Lobster Films, Richard M. Roberts, and dozens  of privately held archives.  This volume premieres a wealth of rare,  unknown, and previously thought lost footage which had been locked away  in vaults and unseen for nearly 100 years! Finally, these long  neglected classic comedies may once again be seen as originally  intended.

The Round Up Starring Roscoe "Fatty" Arbuckle

Silent screen legend Roscoe “Fatty” Arbuckle, master of short subject comedies, made his debut as the star of feature length films in George Melford’s production of THE ROUND UP (1920).  In this action-packed drama, Arbuckle portrays Sheriff Slim Hoover, a  “legitimate” role which not only offers a perfect vehicle for Arbuckle’s  clever brand of humor, but also reveals him to be a dramatic actor of  the first order! This first class western has everything, including  silent film mega-star Buster Keaton in an uncredited cameo as an Apache Indian!

Pulled from distribution in 1921, this historic film has been unavailable to the general public for over 95 years – until now.

SPECIAL FEATURES:

  • This dual format release includes one DVD and one Blu-Ray disc
  • New 4K digital transfer and restoration of the 35mm archival  master preserved by Paramount Archives and the Library of Congress -  Packard Campus of Audiovisual Conservation
  • New score composed and performed by Donald Sosin
  • Audio commentary featuring author and film historian Richard M. Roberts
  • Two new restorations of Arbuckle’s earliest Keystone comedy shorts: A BANDIT and PEEPING PETE (both 1913), featuring new organ scores composed and performed by Dennis Scott
  • Gallery of original theatrical posters, lobby cards, glass slides, stills, programs, and memorabilia
  • PLUS: Full color booklet featuring production information, restoration notes, and more!
